News Update as of February 2010

There’s been a lot going on here since I last updated the site.

For those who missed the previous announcement, I’m writing two urban fantasies for Ace. The first one has the working title of The Shape of Desire, and I’m burning my way through a first draft. The second one will be a sequel, and I’m already mulling over ideas. The books are slated to be published in fall 2011 and 2012. But long before those hit the shelves, my newest fantasy, Troubled Waters, will come out in October 2010.

Meanwhile, I’ve been invited into two new anthologies. One will be a collection of angel novellas, which will come out in fall 2011. My co-authors will be Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, and Meljean Brook, so it ought to be a really entertaining book. I haven’t entirely worked out the story I’m going to write, but it definitely will be set in the world of Samaria. Earlier this year, my co-authors invited me to post a guest piece on their blog, Odd Shots, and you can read that at
http://www.theoddshots.com/2010/01/special-guest-author-sharon-shinn/.

I’ve also been invited to contribute a short story to The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance 2. Looks like there will be dozens of contributors to that project! I know what I’m planning to write for this anthology, I just haven’t had time to sit down and produce it yet.

More good news: My agent has made a deal with audible.com to produce the five angel books as downloadable audio files. (That would be Archangel, Jovah’s Angel, The Alleluia Files, Angelica, and Angel-Seeker.) Not sure when they will be produced and available for sale, but I think this is awfully cool. The Twelve Houses books are also available for audio download at audible.com.

Here’s something fun: The Romantic Times has published the nominees for its annual Reviewers’ Choice awards, and I’m up for an award in Career Achievement in Science Fiction & Fantasy. (How can this be? I feel like I’m still breaking in to the field!) The other writers in my category are Lois McMaster Bujold and Catherine Asaro. Talk about great company to be in! (The nominees in the Urban Fantasy category are equally awesome: Charles DeLint, Emma Bull, and Charlaine Harris.) Awards are given out at the RT’s convention in April and published in its June issue.

Finally, I’ve been invited to be 2011 Guest of Honor at COSine in Colorado Springs. I believe the event will be held January 21-23, but the dates were tentative last time I talked to the organizers. If you’re anywhere near Colorado, please sign up!
